JP Hayes Essays (3554 words) - Rockefeller Family,

JP Hayes Mr. McKenzie US Honors History 2 November 2017 American Monopolies, Good or Bad? America in the 1800's was a completely different place then it is now due to the laws that were in place, culture, politics, and the business world. After the Civil War America was in a reconstruction period where the government and physical structures had to be rebuilt to the citizen's approval. During this time a few smart men were able to pinpoint America's greatest needs and create an abundant supply of that item to sell. The most significant bosses that are famous for running a monopoly are J.P Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and John D. Rockefeller. Not only did these men their companies have an enormous supply of goods and resources but also, they had no competition so they controlled the prices. To run such a big business while also making sure you stay on top meant these bosses had to be vicious with competitors and work anyone who was willing too. While the monopolies were starting up and hitting their peak of business the Civil War was also going on, which m eant a lot of men were fighting. This caused woman and children of most ages to come and work for large companies that involved dangerous work, long hours, and low pay. The bosses did not care that young kids worked for them and that people were dying in their factories because they were getting so rich. There are few cases when a monopoly can be beneficial for a nation's economy and it's people; plus for this to happen the bosses have to care more about the people then money. Generally a monopoly is a bad thing hence why laws were created to control the power they can have. When one company has no competition problems are created such as raising the price to be unfair for the buyer, lower the quality of the product, and there is no reason to innovate. The four tycoon bosses in the 1800's were trying to help America grow but at the same time make a lot of money. All though the four tycoon bosses in the 1800's helped build up America's businesses and transportation methods, there wer e more negative impacts such as weakening the economy, cheating the working class, and viciously eliminating all competition which would not have ended if it was not for the Sherman Anti-Trust law. Cornelius Vanderbilt was able to become one of the wealthiest men in America while also helping out the nation but it all starts back in his early life. Vanderbilt was born in Manhattan and lived with his family which his dad was the supplier of money for them. He was a steamboat captain who made Vanderbilt work with him as a young boy. This was the best thing his dad ever did for him because in the 1820's Vanderbilt entered the steamship business for himself and from here on out the money piles in. For many years Vanderbilt had to compete against other captains and during this time is when he learned his ruthless tactics that would lead him to being a boss. In the 1850's Vanderbilt got a huge break when the California gold rush happen but is was not the gold that saved him. While everyone was focused on finding gold Vanderbilt focused on how people would get over there. He created a route for steamships that would take passengers from New York to San Francisco faster then ever be fore. His route was an instant success and caused him to make nearly one million dollars a year which in todays economy would be twenty five million dollars. This wouldn't be enough for Vanderbilt as he was just getting started in the 1860's when he decided to enter the railroad business. He gained control of a set of railroads stretching from New York to Chicago but he soon noticed a flaw. After bringing his son William Vanderbilt into the business in 1862 the two created a new systems of railways that stretched over multiple states and fixed all the cons of the railways before hand. The new railroads all had the same protocols, timetables, and covered so much more

The eNotes Blog Cynic No More Doctoral Student Lands Fame,Job

Cynic No More Doctoral Student Lands Fame,Job Not that long ago, aspiring writers had to resort to submitting their work to various magazines and other publishers far and wide. We would tuck our (yes, typewritten) manuscripts into unsympathetic manilla envelopes. Those unsympathetic envelopes would land on the desks of various unsympathetic copy editors, who, I imagined, gave our scripts a glance and then, with a sniff, stuffed them into our self-addressed stamped envelopes. Dont forget the extra postage to cover the weight of humiliation! These days, writers still submit but the process is usually more electronically-based. INSTANT REJECTION! Huzzah! However, despite grumbling, there are ways to be known and the opportunities are far more accessible than they were even a half a dozen years ago.   I personally continue to protect the flickering flame of hope, fantasizing that one day, I will be the internet-equivalent of   Lana Turner, discovered at the soda fountain of Facebook or Reddit or on one of   the dozens of other blogs that I comment on. Comments, however, are, as an NPR report aptly notes, the cesspool of the internet.   The insights are, more often than not, inane, juvenile, frequently misogynistic or racist, or hey, all of the above. Therefore, to get noticed by a major publisher like the lauded Atlantic Magazine is nothing short of miraculous, but that is exactly what happened to Yoni Appelbaum,   a Ph.D. candidate in history from Brandeis University. For six months, using the covert handle Cynic, Applebaum (who was procrastinating on writing his dissertation) responded intelligently and cogently to the magazines blog posts. His responses were thoughtful and relevant, well-researched and respectful. Post after post showed the writer to be top-notch and other Atlantic readers and commentors responded.   Soon, people were inquiring as to who this person might be.   Theories went wild, speculating Cynic to be anyone from President Obama to (Cheers   actor) George Wendt. As Cynics fame grew, higher-ups at the Atlantic began to take more notice. Eventually,   they offered the surprised graduate student a guest post (an honor that had only been conferred on a select few, such as Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon). Cynic still did not reveal his true name. After the success of the guest posts, editors offered Cynic a permanent job. The only catch was that he would have to reveal his identity. Appelbaum did so, even though he had some reservations, and now writes professionally for the publication. Its a story to give ALL of us cynics some hope.

Business Benefits of Agile

Business Benefits of Agile Agile marketing has proven to be one of the most vital business concepts leading to success in both individualized customer experience, as well as overall product performance. The key component of this type of marketing, agility, represents an organizations ability to assess environmental change and then efficiently and effectively respond to that change. This approach improves the predictability, adaptability, speed, and transparency to change of the marketing function. Being able to tailor their efforts in a quick manner is a must for marketers, so to successfully respond to changes that occur in market conditions, customer behavior, and business direction to benefit market share. By doing so, marketers will gain the ability to gain a more individualized connection with customers in a dependable, effective and engaging way, therefore achieving what is known as individualized marketing. As a result of keeping customers up to date with all marketing affairs and therefore gaining a le gitimate grasp of their habits and issues, marketers put themselves in the best position of creating rewarding relationships. Marketing agility is centered around the ability of marketing organizations to collaborate in an efficient fashion, while also being able to adjust their performance to potential changes. In combination with this, it is imperative that marketing organizations also focus on the execution of the following key initiatives: Centralizing the management of all marketing programs Aligning marketing activities to budgets and spending accounts Developing reusable process workflows Responding at the speed of the customer Adjusting campaign execution based on analytical insights Improving marketing performance by employing proven strategies for success Remaining agile throughout a campaign so changes can be made in real time There are three primary operations considerations in agile marketing. The first is Planning Spend Management, which is the ability to fully access limited marketing resources so that marketers can get the most ROI from their marketing initiatives. Next is Workflow Collaboration Management, or the ability to prioritize and execute all incoming marketing requests with pre-established, reusable workflows. And finally, Marketing Asset Management, the ability to design, edit, produce, and deliver creative assets that consistently and automatically invoke executive, marketing, and legal approval mechanisms. Planning Spend Management: Marketers have the chance to get the most on their investment, but in order to do so, they need to have the option of seeing limited marketing resources more clearly and thoroughly. Focusing on planning and spend management can help this happen. If there is a lack of perceptibility in terms of how marketing resources are being designated, both marketing costs and missed opportunities are likely to increase. Implementing current insights into spending rates and budget adherence, enables marketers to make well-informed decisions concerning the success of strategic initiatives and make immediate and responsive adjustments. Another consideration for improving planning and spend management is creating a centralized marketing calendar which links every action to the spend that supports it, allowing greater visibility into every strategic initiative and its measurable results. Access to this information also allows for informed conversations and eliminates opinio n battles with fact-based data. Workflow Collaboration Management: In order to better manage workflow and collaboration, there needs to be a clear understanding of all incoming marketing requests so work can be prioritized and carried out with pre established, reusable workflows. This will not only maximizes an organization’s marketing efforts, but also ensure process compliance and reporting. Additionally, the ability to choreograph and manage all the intra-agency and inter-agency communications and activities that support the creation, execution, and governance of omni-channel customer campaigns is essential to an organization’s efficiency, agility, and overall success. The system manages itself, providing the opportunity for marketers to focus on creativity. The true power of workflow and collaboration management is exposed when the broad aspect of it enables a complete end-to-end process and encompasses all steps of the marketing activity. Marketing Asset Management: The best and most effective marketing efforts require that an organization’s creative assets are designed, edited, produced, and delivered in a way that consistently and automatically invokes executive, marketing, and legal approval mechanisms. By harmonizing these operations in an efficient and compliant way, marketers can ensure their digital and creative content is both effective and compliant. By prioritizing a close and efficient process with creative asset production partners, marketers can position their organizations to successfully deliver streamlined, approved, and compliant assets at the speed each customer wants and expects. The best marketing asset management approach establishes a consistent process for creation and a single place to store properly licensed and approved assets. The financial benefits of this repository are undisputable – marketers have the most up-to-date creative pieces they require at their fingertips, and there is never a cost associated with replacing lost or misplaced assets. The benefits of increasing marketing agility are both measurable and substantial. In fact, highly agile organizations report they meet goals and business objectives 83% of the time, compared to 59% of less agile organizations. Increase in productivity is a big one, which can be measured in ways such as completed marketing tasks, results, points, etc. There is also more transparency, allowing other branches of management to see the whereabouts of marketing. Because two agile marketing core values are accountability and measurability, this emphasis better develops marketing’s contribution communication skills. Customer satisfaction also increases as a result of customer needs being met quickly and with honesty, encouraging them to make a purchasing decision. Agile marketing allows for marketing teams to have a better overall connection with their different departments and allows for improved communication internally and with their customers. Experience and performance will not o nly improve exponentially, but marketers’ ability to do their job will prove to be more straightforward and more fun. Being able to share and collaborate with the people you work with makes way for greater respect and satisfaction throughout the workplace.

Betrayed By God :: essays research papers

Betrayed By God   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  To tell you the truth I have never really felt betrayed by God. It's most likely due to the fact that I haven't had many significant life experiences come up. Also when something goes wrong I don't look at God as a scapegoat. I feel you should blame whoever or whatever caused the tragedy. Blaming God is just the easy way out or just a quick answer to your problems. All this aside and even though I've never felt betrayed, I know others who have.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I work at a deli in my town and it recently burnt down. If I were the owner, I would have felt betrayed or denied. I mean, it's his life. It's the way he supports his family. One day he woke up and it was gone. Even worse is the time of year it happened, Christmas. This is the time when you need every penny but the only thing he's getting now is lost-wages paid by his insurance company. It doesn't even close to what he would be making if the deli were still up and running. But it's better than nothing, I guess.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  His business has been through a lot of hardships over the last 16 years. Another difficulty was the building of the Blue Route near his business. The construction blocked almost everyone from entering the building. I don't know if you could blame God for that sort of problem or maybe it was just fate. But with these dilemmas and problems, he didn't question why God allowed these things to happen. He looked insstead to the way he benefited from the experiences.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One benefit was it made him stronger mentally aand spiritually. To keep a business going for three years with minimal customers is hard. It takes dedication and will to show up every morning and basically prepare for nothing, but he did . He was much more grateful when people came in and developed a better business. Perhaps God knew what He was doing.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Even the fire was a blessing in disguise. Some of the equipment was getting old and things just weren't all in top condition. So now he will have new equipment, walls, ceiling and so on. He wouldn't have had the pocket money to do this alone. Now you might be thinking it was just an insurance scam, but he had many inspectors come in and checked the cause . It was faulty wiring.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  God might have seen that things weren't exactly great and things needed to be done to help out in the future.
